Notifying Oregon of Your Intent to Homeschool

In Oregon, parents are required to declare their intent to homeschool in the year their child turns seven by September 1st. This notification is sent to your local education service district (ESD) and simply states the child's name, date of birth, parent's name, and that you intend to homeschool the child. The contact information and notification form for your local ESD can be found on the Oregon Department of Education website.

State Testing

The State of Oregon requires children to be tested at the end of 3rd, 5th, 8th and 10th grades. Once a year, usually in June, SCHC provides a testing site with the testing facilitated by Basic Skills. To prepare your student for this test, you can purchase practice tests, assessment tools, books and other products from Basic Skills. Please use this link to give credit to our group.  SCHC receives 10% of every test fee from Basic Skills for hosting the test. This fee will go towards rental of the church. If you purchase other materials through this link, a percentage of the sales will also be paid to SCHC and used for scholarships.  For questions regarding state testing, please contact us.

Testing this year will be on June 5, 2017. Registration is from 8:30-9am, but you can fill out the Basic Skills Test Registration Form and send checks (made out to Basic Skills) ahead of time to our address at: SCHC, PO Box 2907, Clackamas, Oregon 97015. Testing will by from 9:00-11:20am for 3rd Graders with optional Plus 11:30-12:30. Upper grades testing will be from 9:00-11:45am, with optional Plus from 11:55-1:00pm. It costs $50 for the basic test, they will mail results to you a few weeks after test. I highly recommend paying the additional $10 for the Performance Evaluation Report, so you can see a more detailed break-down of where your child struggled and/or succeeded.
